Contemporary Conservation Architecture

Malcolm Fryer Architects are a growing architectural practice offering a unique combination of sensitive contemporary design and historic building expertise.

Under the direction of Malcolm Fryer, the experience of the practice ranges from careful building repairs through to large scale adaptive re-use and master-planning projects.

Our design philosophy is one of seeking creative and flexible yet robust solutions, which respect the significance of existing buildings and their contexts whilst adding a layer of contemporary distinction. The practice seeks to make buildings sustainable in the widest sense, reflecting the needs of users socially and economically as well as environmentally. A ‘Long Life, Loose Fit’ approach is central to this challenge.

The practice has a strong track record of obtaining planning and listed building consents for complex and ambitious historic building projects, and for securing funding sources. Malcolm Fryer has been responsible for designing and delivering award winning buildings for a wide range of private, institutional and ecclesiastical clients.

Whether working alone or in collaborative partnership, the practice values the importance of an integrated team approach to design. A strong client focus recognises the uniqueness of all projects and the need for a tailored approach. Membership of the RIBA and accreditation in historic building conservation (AABC) ensures that the highest standards are maintained at all times.
